Expression

I had a long conversation with a friend last night. She was having some trouble with a friend. She started talking about how hard it was to express your feelings or get across what you mean to someone in a phone call, e-mail, or blog. She was talking about how things get lost in interpretation or come across in a completely different way then you mean them to. I told her I totally agreed. It is really hard to express things sometimes and make it sound the way you want, whether in person or online.

I guess it just made me think about it because I do have a hard time expressing things the way I want sometimes. I hate stepping on peoples toes or irritating them because I don't say what I mean in a better way. I hate that feeling of putting your foot in your mouth, although as a human being it's bound to happen. Maybe I just care too much about what people think...maybe my friend does too...I don't know. I just hate the thought of coming across as bitchy or whiny or offensive to someone else. That's not to say I won't stand up for myself and for what I believe in, just that I hate being misunderstood. Anyways, it just got me to thinking about expression. How do you guys feel about it? Do you think maybe people read too much into things? Do you ever feel that way...that expressing yourself in the right way is hard? Anyways, just a random thought for the day.

Since the Eclipse

Well, since Piscesmama posted a question on her blog about what had happened since June 22nd that was random and crazy in your life, I decided to answer. I'm waiting for my computer to load some stuff for work and since I haven't blogged in forever, I figured this would give me an excuse =D So here goes...the highlights...oh and what I've learned.

~ talked to Superman- realized from this that we have both changed a lot in the last year
~ got more info on starting a business website
~ my dad scheduled his knee replacement surgery, happens at the end of August- this definitely made me realize that I DON'T want to have this done and that I need to really get off my butt and get healthier
~ had massive drama at work with ordering- took a week to get it fixed and made me realize how much I seriously hate UPS
~ started a savings account
~ was introduced to a random guy via a friend- he seemed nice, but not my type
~ reconnected with a lot of friends at both a July BBQ and a girls night out- this made me realize how much I had missed all of them for sure
~ went dancing and met lots of cool new people, whom I'll probably never see again, but made me realize how much I needed a break and to dance with a cute guy...not to mention spend time with the girls
~ organized a huge part of the house- still have a lot to do though
~ put up with my bro's girlfriend- ugh
~ started a blog for my store- yea! (well actually got back to it)
~ learned the new order system for the parts store so I can take over ordering for it when dad is out with surgery
~ have been feeling the urge to redecorate house- I haven't changed things in awhile, so I feel like I need to do something about it.
~ have been feeling the urge to slightly reinvent myself...new clothes, shoes, maybe hair??

Anyways, it has been a crazy little while. I really do believe Piscesmama is onto something with her whole eclipse thing. July also seemed to be filled with lots of badness. I've had a lot of people that I know through work that have had some really bad things going on...deaths in the family, severe sickness, accidents, and arguments. It just seems like this whole period of time has been chaotic and full of upheaval. I don't know, but hopefully things will get a little smoother for everyone soon. Hope you're all good!!

Piscesmama Meme

Alrighty, so I've officially been tagged for a meme. So here we go:

1. What is your current obsession?
My biggest obsession lately has been Smallville. I decided to Netflix it, since I hadn't watched it since season 1. I've almost caught up with it in the last three months. It's completely random, but I really like it.

2. What is your weirdest obsession?
Hmmm...probably my current workout time of 9PM. I've gotten re-obsessed with DDR on my Wii and have been working out from 9-10PM. I think that's kind of odd, but it works.

3. Recall a fond childhood memory?
One of the most random childhood memories I have is having middle school study sessions with my BFF, Curmudge, in the basement of our auto parts store. If we could've had a fort or a clubhouse, this would have been it. I would also say some of my favorite memories are travelling with my youth group and going camping with them in the summer. We would ride horse, 4-wheelers, hike, cookout, and of course play cards.

4. What's for dinner?
A potatoe Lean Cuisine and fresh strawberries.

5. What would you eat for your last meal?
I would make homemade alfredo sauce and pasta, with garlic bread. Yum, yum!

6. What's the last thing you bought?
A Diet Pepsi from the Exxon station.

7. What are you listening to right now?
Actually nothing really. The sound of our swamp cooler here at work. Ahhh, refreshing.

8. What do you think of the person who tagged you?
She is one of my best friends and someone who I know will always be a part of my life. She's an amazing single mom who lives on her own terms. She's strong, confident, wonderful, funny, and is always there when I need here. You rock Piscesmama!

9. If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished, anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Well, I would love a house where I could go and get out of town once in awhile. I would have to say a house in Hawaii would be pretty awesome. I would love to be able to escape more and if I had a house somewhere else, I could afford to travel there easier, since I wouldn't have to pay for a hotel.

10. If you could go anywhere in the world, for the next hour, where would you go?
New Zealand. It would be awesome to see. The Bahamas wouldn't be bad either.

11. What language do you want to learn?
French would be fun. It sounds so beautiful.

12. What's your favorite quote (for now)?
Life is a journey, not a destination. ~Anonymous My words to live by.

13. What is your favorite color?
purple

14. What is your favorite piece of clothing in your wardrobe?
My size smaller jeans. The represent the weight loss and change of lifestyle I'm attempting.

15. What is your dream job?
I actually am living and breathing my dream job, which is owning my own scrapbooking business. I wouldn't change it for the world.

16. What is your favorite magazine?
I love Entertainment Weekly and Better Homes Scrapbooking.

17. If you had $100 now, what would you spend it on?
New clothes and shoes. I need to get both one of these days.

18. Describe your personal style?
A tomboy who wears a lot of jeans, but likes cute girlie shirts to go with them, as well as earrings and necklaces. I guess it's casual with a little flair.

19. What are you going to do after this?
Maybe freight, if UPS gets here or work on designing some stuff for a class. Gotta get the creative juices flowing.

20. What are you favorite films?
I love chic flicks, most recently The Proposal. I love Disney animated movies, especially The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast, and Lion King. I love action/sci-fi, most recently Star Trek and Wolverine. Others include: Dirty Dancing, Superman (including the Christopher Reeve ones), Braveheart, In Her Shoes, Gladiator, Just Friends (I love Ryan Reynolds in this movie =), 8 Seconds, The Wedding Singer, Star Wars, Moulin Rouge...I love a lot of movies. I'm totally addicted to Netflixing TV shows and watching them, most recently The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Nip/Tuck Season 2, and CSI. It's great, no commericals.

21. What is your favorite fruit?
berries, especially raspberries and strawberries

22. Who inspires you?
My family and friends. They each add to my life in a unique way and inspire me everyday in some way.

23. Your favorite books?
Currently reading In Defense of Food, really interesting. state quarters, scrapbooking stuff

25. Any advice that comes from bitter experience?
I would say be careful of how far you go in believing someone can change and having false hope that you can help them change. That's not to say people can't change, but you can't save them if they don't want to be saved and won't help themself.

26. What makes you follow a blog?
Creativity, interest, learning about other people's live, sense of humor

I'm tagging: Jenn, Kinkysmurf, Ed, and Tesa to do this little survey next.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

I swear that I'll start writing more and then all this crazy stuff happens and I don't update. So, here's the highlights of my life in the last month:

1. Work has been crazy. I think people are doing a lot of scrapbooking right now (yea!). I actually got a blog up and going for work too, which I've actually been updating. I also put us on Twitter so I can update us even more often. We're actually thinking about starting a website to sell product online, hopefully in the next year. We've already had a few calls from people who have visited and want us to ship them Colorado and local area stuff. My most recent was a nice woman from Louisiana.

2. My work e-mail crashed, losing all of my contacts, so that's been fun.

3. My dad has decided to finally get his knees replaced this August. He's had bad knees for years and in the last two or three, they've gotten really, really bad. I'm glad he's doing it. He also joined Weight Watchers with me and we've gone every week for the last three weeks, which is awesome, considering he never has wanted to change his eating habits before. I'm super proud of him for this and it makes it nice to have someone to go with. He's lost 10 pounds in two weeks. Yea! He says once his knees are done that he wants to go to Disney World on vacation.

4. I actually went on a mini vacation at the end of May to Albuquerque to visit A. It was lots of fun. We had great food, did a little shopping, and went to the aquarium, zoo, and botanical gardens. It was gorgeous and lots of fun. Being spring, there were baby animals and all of the flowers were in bloom at the botanical gardens. I have some fun pictures, which I'll try to post one day =D

5. I've been hanging out with my BFFs a lot. We try to squeeze in walking, dinner, and movie outings about once a week. It is always fun to hang out with them. We even had some friends come in from out of town, which we all went to dinner with a few nights ago. It was great to see them. We ate at a great place (Ken & Sue's) downtown. LB entertained us by jumping on and off of the patio walls. It was lots of fun.

6. I've been addicted to Facebook a lot lately.

7. I talked to Superman, who I hadn't talked to in months. It was fun to hear from him.

8. I went four wheeling, finally. We went up Beaver Meadows and over to First Notch. It was what dad wanted to do for Father's Day.

9. Heard from an old high school friend, R. who lives in Missouri. He's apparently coming to visit in July and wants to see the posse that's still here. It should be fun to see him. I haven't seen him in almost two years.

Anyways, that's my life in a nutshell over the last few weeks. I'm sure there's other randomness to talk about, but I can't think of it right now. Hope you're all good!

Innocence

I had a woman come in yesterday that was looking for a gift for her 8 year old niece. She wanted to get her some scrapbooking stuff so she could create her own book. I showed her a few things and some of the younger stuff that I had that would be appropriate, including princess and Disney stuff.

Anyways, she thought that the princess and Disney stuff was too 'young' for her and that she might think it was for 'little kids'. Now, while I know kids develop at different ages, have different things they like, etc. and no, I don't expect all girls to like those sorts of things, but the woman told me she like them when she was 'younger'. I didn't know quite what to say to that. She started looking at the teen stuff, which I know that girls that are 8 or 9 would love too, since they could have something more 'grown-up'. I guess I was just thinking where me and my friends were at 8.

I mean we were all still playing with things like Care Bears, My Little Ponies, watching Disney movies (I still love most of them to this day), and playing dress-up. I guess it just made me wonder about how quick kids are having to grow-up in our era. It didn't shock me exactly, but made me a little sad. I guess I still want my future kids to be, well, kids. I don't want them to be naive, but I also want them to enjoy their childhood and not have to grow-up too fast either. I know it's a fine line to walk and I'm not a parent, so by no means am I an expert. I just could tell that this woman was being dead serious about the whole thing.

I guess it made me sad because it seems childhood just keeps getting shorter and shorter. That's not to say that our childhood was perfect or that I'm doing that whole 'back in the good old days' rant, just that it really made me think about our culture and our future generations.

Balance

You know how sometimes you forget parts of yourself because something else happens in your life and the thing you did before gets put on the back burner for one reason or the other? I think I realized last night how much I had been doing that the last little while.

I finally got to work outside in my yard some, which to some is pretty ho hum I know, but it was something I forgot how much I enjoyed doing. I started weeding my flower beds and did a little mowing. It's amazing how much that little change of pace helped.

Anyways, I guess what I'm saying is, is that I knew I had been focusing a lot on work and that it had been consuming a lot of time, as it probably always will from now on, but I hadn't really realized how much I had been missing some other parts of my life. I realized I really hadn't been doing much for myself lately to take the edge off because of pressing projects, open houses, etc. That's not to say it wasn't completely worth it and that I didn't have fun, just that I think I've been missing the variety of doing random stuff.

So, while I know things will continue to be crazy, I know now, even more than before, that I have to find more balance and take more time to take care of myself and enjoy the other aspects of my life that I really haven't in awhile. That's not to say I'm turning into a selfish hedonist, just that I forgot how great and fulfilling it was to do something other than work.

I also want to say here a big thank you to all of my wonderful, understanding, supportive, patient friends who have been there for me so much and have put up with the craziness of my life. You guys are so awesome and you really keep me sane, so thank you so, so, SO much!!
